Eagles shut out Gar-Field in football scrimmage
Starting running backs Corey Lillard and Damien Dodson did not carry the ball at all due to lingering injuries.
Still, the debut of the Liberty High football team was a smashing success last Friday against Gar-Field.
No score was officially kept, but the Eagles scored four touchdowns and two field goals, and held Gar-Field scoreless.
One has to assume the Liberty High coaching staff was secretly pleased with their team's performance, even if they weren't saying it.
“To me, when you have your first scrimmage there are three categories you want to evaluate,” said coach Tommy Buzzo. “No. 1, do the kids fly around and make some hits? No. 2, are the kids in the right place? Are they running the plays correctly? And No. 3 is execution.
“I thought we flew around and did a good job hitting, No. 2 is an area we were behind in. We need to do a better job at knowing where to be.”
Buzzo said “No. 3,” or execution is still a work in progress.
