Richmond visitor drowns

A Richmond man visiting family in southern Fauquier County drowned in a lake adjacent to the family's home Sunday afternoon, police said.

According to Maj. Paul Mercer of the Fauquier County Sheriff's Office, police, fire and rescue personnel responded to the Warrenton Road address at approximately 2:22 p.m.

An investigation determined that Moreno O. Flores, 26, decided to go swimming in the lake while visiting family. A family member who went to check on him noticed he seemed to be having trouble in the water, and called 911.

Mercer said Flores drowned before help arrived.

In addition to members of the Goldvein Volunteer Fire Company, fire and rescue personnel from Stafford and a Stafford County dive team responded to the scene.
