Coalition unites disaster responders
It's all about teamwork.According to Felecia Chavez, a regional coalition called the Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (VOAD) is seeking new members in Fauquier and nearby counties.
The coalition will work to supplement emergency responses to catastrophic events such as floods or tornadoes.
"We would meet with emergency managers [from the affected communities] and they would let us know what needs to be done," said Chavez, an outreach coordinator with the American Red Cross who is also president of VOAD.
As an umbrella organization, VOAD would then contact its members who could provide the necessary services, Chavez added.
