No drugs found at schoolsFauquier County Sheriff Charlie Ray Fox Jr. announced that no drugs or other illegal items were found at Cedar Lee Middle School or Southeastern Alternative School April 21.
Approximately nine Fauquier County deputies, including K-9 teams, searched the interior and exterior of each school.
The random, unannounced searches are done in conjunction with the Fauquier County Public Schools. Such searches will continue throughout the school year and will include all of the county's public schools.
Vehicle thefts investigated
The Fauquier County Sheriff's Office received three reports of stolen vehicles last week.
Police records indicate that someone from the 9700 block of Shenandoah Path in Catlett reported the theft of a 1973 Plymouth Satellite and a 1985 Lincoln Town Car April 15. The vehicles were reportedly worth $1,500.
Someone else from the 10000 block of Shenandoah Path also reported a 1972 GMC Tandom April 15. The estimated loss is $5,000.
Finally, deputies received another report from a caller in the 9700 block of Shenandoah Path April 16. The complainant said that a 1954 Plymouth had been stolen. The estimated loss is $500.
All investigations are ongoing.
Larcenies reported
Three people reported the thefts of different items to the Fauquier County Sheriff's Office April 15-16.
Police said someone in the 5300 block of Old Alexandria Turnpike, Warrenton, reported the theft of Chanel sunglasses April 15. The sunglasses were reportedly worth approximately $602.39. The case remains under investigation.
A caller from the 7300 block of Comfort Inn Drive, Warrenton, also reported the theft of a wallet on April 15. The estimated loss is $1,600.
On April 16, someone from the 7100 block of Baldwin Ridge Road, Warrenton, reported the theft of a computer and medication from a vehicle, police said. The estimated loss is $1,500.
Destruction of property
A caller from the 4200 block of Manor Road, Marshall, reported damaged property to the Fauquier County Sheriff's Office April 18.
The damage was allegedly caused by items put into the gas tank. The estimated loss is $2,000.
No one hurt in school bus accident
No one was hurt when a Fauquier County School bus and a UPS truck sideswiped each other on Rogues Road April 15.
According to a Fauquier deputy's report, the accident happened at approximately 5:24 p.m., in the vicinity of Bealeton Road.
Jeffrey Neill Vaughan, 39, of Gordonsville was driving the UPS truck north on Rogues Road when he struck the school bus on the driver's side.
Marion Louise Hare, 73, of Bealeton was reportedly driving the bus when the vehicles sideswiped each other.
The mirrors on both vehicles were damaged, according to the report.
Emergency medical services personnel evaluated both drivers and the children on the school bus at the scene. The deputy said he notified parents about the accident.
Distraction possible factor in wreck
A Culpeper man was hurt in a two-car crash on U.S. 211 near VanRoijen Street April 17.
A Fauquier County deputy's accident report indicates the crash happened at approximately 7:15 a.m.
Edward Roach Thompson 47, of Culpeper, was driving a 1995 Toyota Tacoma when he was slowing down and possibly preparing to make a right turn. A 1995 Jeep Cherokee driven by a 17-year-old Jeffersonton girl hit Thompson's car from behind, according to the report.
"Driver 1 [the juvenile] stated that she did not see the other vehicle slowing down. She may have been reaching for her visor," the report states.
Thompson was transported to the hospital by EMS personnel.
Failure to yield the right of way
Cynthia Ann Lunsford, 47, of Bealeton, was injured in a two-car crash April 18, police said.
The wreck happened at the intersection of Route 28 [Catlett Road] and Midland Road at approximately 6:50 a.m., according to a Fauquier County deputy's report.
Leslie Ann McLain, 18, of Midland, was driving a 1999 Mercedes C280 when she allegedly failed to yield the right of way to Lunsford at the intersection.
Lunsford, who was driving a 1992 Jeep Cherokee when the collision occurred, was transported to the hospital by EMS personnel, according to the report.
