Police Briefs
Fugitive arrestedFauquier County deputies arrested a fugitive wanted by Prince William County authorities March 31, police said.
Erik Wayne Lane, 22, of Bealeton, was reportedly wanted by Prince William County police on outstanding warrants.
Maj. Paul Mercer of the Fauquier County Sheriff's Office said the chain of events that resulted in Lane's arrest began when Cpl. A.P. Gregg spotted a man matching Lane's description walking in the 5500 block of Dumfries Road.
The man fled while Gregg tried to identify him, Mercer said. Lane was taken into custody after a short chase.
Gregg charged Lane with obstruction of justice. Lane was held in the Fauquier County Adult Detention Center without bond on that warrant, as well as on the outstanding warrants from Prince William County.
Larceny investigated
The theft of a statue from an Old Goose Creek Road residence remains under investigation.
Law enforcement records indicate someone from the 6400 block of Old Goose Creek Road in Midland reported the theft to the Fauquier County Sheriff's Office March 31. The statue of a young female is made of lead, police said. The estimated loss is $2,800.
Destruction of property by fire
Timothy Glenn Thatcher, 22, of Warrenton, has been arrested and charged with destruction of property by fire, police said.
Thatcher was arrested after someone in the 7100 block of Viewtree Drive reported arson to a 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier to the Fauquier County Sheriff's Office April 1, according to police. The estimated loss was approximately $4,000.
Vehicle thefts reported
The Fauquier County Sheriff's Office received three reports of stolen vehicles last week.
A caller from the 3700 block of Firey Run Road in Linden reported a 1975 Cadillac Deville stolen April 1. The estimated loss is $300.
Someone from the 10300 block of Bristersburg Road in Catlett reported the theft of a 1962 Chevrolet Nova on April 3. The estimated loss is $500 and the investigation is ongoing.
On April 4, a complainant from the 11100 block of St. Pauls Road in Remington reported the theft of a 2002 Honda Rencon ATV, police said. The estimated loss in that case is $2,000.
Reckless driving
A Herndon man was charged with reckless driving April 2, police said.
Virginia State Police Sgt. Franz Mahler said Trooper Aaron Stiltner charged Rex Roller, 67, of Herndon with the offense after Roller hit a 2003 Chevrolet S-10 pickup on Catlett Road.
The pickup truck, which was operated by Michael Egbert, 50, of Bealeton was stopped in traffic, Mahler said. Roller, who was driving a 2004 Mack dump truck, could not stop and hit the pickup truck from behind, the sergeant added. The pickup truck then went off the right side of the road and hit a guardrail.
Charges pending in crash
A Jeffersonton man reportedly was injured when his vehicle overturned on U.S. 211 near Leeds Manor Road April 2.
Virginia State Police Sgt. Franz Mahler said Trooper Rob Marshall of the Area 12 Office in Warrenton conducted the accident investigation. It determined that Naseem Joseph, 52, was driving a Chrysler Concorde when it went of the right shoulder of the road and overturned.
Charges are pending, Mahler said.
Improper lane change
State police said a truck driver from Wilkesboro, N.C. was charged with making an improper lane change after he was involved in an accident with another motorist April 2.
Trooper Derek Mabie of the Area 12 Office in Warrenton conducted the accident investigation. He determined that the truck driver, who was operating a 2004 Volvo tractor trailer, hit a 2004 Nissan Sentra in the turning lane at the intersection of U.S. 17 and Route 28, Sgt. Franz Mahler said.
Neither Diaz nor the other driver, Michael Crowley, 33, of Maryland, were injured.
Failure to control vehicle
A McLean woman was reportedly charged with failure to control a vehicle and operating a vehicle with faulty brakes after she was involved in an accident on Interstate 66.
An accident report taken by a Fauquier County deputy indicates the wreck happened at approximately 5 p.m. April 4. Michelle Ann Steiner, 57, was driving a 2002 Acura eastbound on a stretch of the highway in Fauquier County when her car went off the right side of the road. Steiner allegedly over corrected, causing the car to go back across the interstate where it spun around backwards and hit an embankment.
Steiner, who was hurt in the wreck, was transported to the hospital by EMS personnel, according to the report.
Teen injured in wreck
Police said a 17-year-old boy from Bealeton was hurt in a motor vehicle accident on Leeds Manor Road April 6.
According to a Fauquier County deputy's report, the crash happened shortly after midnight as the teen was driving southbound. The vehicle lost traction on the wet pavement and spun around, hitting a bank before rolling over and landing on its side.
The driver was not transported to the hospital by ambulance, according to the report.
