Middleburg


Cancer Walkathon: The first Nanette's Walk to raise money to fight breast cancer will be Sept. 15 in Middleburg.

The fund was established as a tribute to Nanette Hewett White, who succumbed to breast cancer in 1999 after a ten-year battle.

The two-mile walk will raise funds for breast cancer prevention and early detection through screening and education.

The walk will begin at the Middleburg Fitness Club at 7 W. Washington St. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m., followed by a kickoff by the event's master of ceremonies, Mayor Betsy Allen Davis.

Drawings for prizes and awards will be handed out after the walk.

Lovettsville


Public hearing: Lovettsville Mayor Elaine Walker, Town Council and the Planning Commission will hold a joint public hearing Sept. 5 at 7:30 p.m. in Town Hall. The hearing will give residents the opportunity to speak for or against the Kristen Swanson conditional-use permit application.


Planning Commission: Following the Sept. 5 public hearing, the Planning Commission will hold its regular monthly meeting in Town Hall. Action items include a vote on the Kristen Swanson conditional-use permit application and a vote on the application regarding the new U.S. post office. The public is invited to attend the meeting, and Town Hall is at 6 E. Pennsylvania Ave.


Purcellville


Remembering Sept. 11, 2001: Town Council will hold its sixth annual September 11 Remembrance Program. The program will be Tuesday, Sept. 11, 7 p.m., at the Carver Senior Center on Willie Palmer Way. Congressman Frank Wolf (R-10th) is the guest speaker for the program.
