Sept. 11 commemoration: The town will host a memorial ceremony Tuesday, Sept. 11 at 7 p.m. on the Town Green, 25 W. Market St. The ceremony will include messages from Mayor Kristen Umstattd and Police Chief Joseph Price. The town's Freedom Memorial at Freedom Park – 101 Granada Circle off Tolbert Lane-- will be open from 7:30 to 9 p.m.

Rust Library: Now moved into its temporary location at 34D Catoctin Cir., the Rust Library will open its doors at 10 a.m. Sept. 5.

The library, formerly at 380 Old Waterford Rd., closed in July for renovation and additions. It's now housed at the former Video Den at the Virginia Village Shopping Center.

The shopping complex will likely house the library for the next 16 months or so while renovations are being made.

The library will be open Monday – Thursday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sundays 1 to 5 p.m.

The "Rust@Catoctin" location will offer a broad range of services and all formats of library materials. There will be storytimes and children’s programming, public Internet computers, wireless access and book discussions.


Good Shepherd Alliance: Historic Leesburg will be the walking path for the 3rd annual Walk for Shelter Sept. 22. Good Shepherd Alliance hosts the event.

Pre-registration Check-in and Event Day Registration begins at 8 a.m. Sept. 22. The walkathon starts at 9:30 a.m.
