Women business leaders honored
The nation's largest bipartisan women's business group, Women Impacting Public Policy, recently honored four companies -- one from Fairfax -- and the U.S. Department of Agriculture with diversity awards for their commitment to advance women and support women-owned businesses.
The awards were presented in Washington, D.C., during its sixth annual conference entitled POWERful Policy and Politics.
On of the WIPP Diversity Entrepreneurial Awards was presented to Lani Hay, president of Lanmark Technology in Fairfax.
The three-day conference was attended by hundreds of women business leaders from across the country for business and public policy training.
City of Fairfax automates broadcast center with Nverzion
Several media outlets reported recently that the City of Fairfax has selected Salt Lake City-based Nverzion automation for the the city's newest single-channel broadcast facility.
The customized automation solution is designed to allow city residents to receive uninterrupted news, local information, city council meetings and, when necessary, emergency message alerts, while providing opportunities for expansion of broadcasts to meet future needs.
A major component of the city's automation installation is Nverizon's NControlite Video Server Spot-Playout Software Package. Area systems integrator Professional Products Inc., based in Gaithersburg, Md., recommended Nverzion to the city.
Mason receives $250K gift from alumnus
The George Mason University School of Management recently announced that it received a gift comprised of cash, artwork and common shares of WorthPoint Corp. stock, collectively valued at $250,000 from WorthPoint CEO and Mason alumnus Will Seippel.
Headquartered in Reston, WorthPoint provides online services to collectors of art and antiques. Funds generated from the donation will provide broad support of School of Management programs in the National Capital Region. Seippel’s gift to the School of Management will be acknowledged during the school’s fall convocation ceremony on Thursday, Oct. 4.
SRA awarded $800 million in September quarter contracts
Fairfax-based SRA International, Inc., a provider of technology and strategic consulting services and solutions to federal government organizations, recently announced that it was awarded more than 60 new contracts in the September quarter with a total value of nearly $800 million, if all options are exercised.
George Mason among best employers for workers over 50
George Mason University has been named one of the 50 best places to work for persons 50 years of age and older by the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP).
According to the association, Mason is eighth in the organization’s annual ranking, the highest of any public or private entity in Virginia, and the highest ranked college or university in the United States. Mason’s entry into the AARP’s top 50 list marks the first time in the organization’s history that a first-time honoree has been placed among the top ten best places to work.
Mason and the 49 other honorees received their awards at a special AARP ceremony on Sept. 26 at the Roosevelt Hotel in New York City. Mason President Alan G. Merten accepted the award on behalf of the university and then participated in a roundtable discussion organized by AARP titled “Profit by Experience: International Employer and Employee Perspectives on Work and Retirement.”
Datatel software chosen by community college
Fairfax-based Datatel, Inc. recently announced that Kansas City Kansas Community College (KCKCC) has chosen Datatel’s Colleague Student, Finance, and Human Resources applications to provide a centralized database. KCKCC also purchased ActiveAdmissions Community College Edition, ActiveCampus Portal and Content Management System, and Creative Design Services to provide online application and registration capabilities.
