Middleburg

Salamander vote: The next Town Council meeting, Aug. 9, could mean the final vote for the Salamander Resort and Spa. The meeting in the Town Office Building at 6 p.m. will include a public hearing. The town and Salamander have worked together since 2005 on plans for the upscale resort, which will sit on 340 acres of land inside the town limits. The Town Council will also meet Aug. 6 at 8 a.m. for a work session, which will include discussion on the Planning Commission's recommendations to the council about Salamander.

Water and sewer: The town is still asking residents to conserve water during the dry months this summer, but reported at a council meeting July 26 that the wells are continuing to pump water at normal rates.

One of the pumps at the west-end lift station clogged again, Town Manager Jerry Schiro reported. The council approved the money needed to fix the pump, about $7,000.

"It's not to the point where the pump is not working," Schiro said, but the town wants to fix it before it affects residents.

If approved, Salamander would provide the town with a new water and sewer treatment facility. But this facility could take a year to build, Schiro said.

Lovettsville

Planning Commission: The Lovettsville Planning Commission meets Aug. 1 at 7:30 p.m. for its regular monthly meeting. Items on the agenda include the proposed Keena rezoning, the proposed Lovettsville Square site plan and the post office preliminary subdivision plan. The public is invited to attend the meeting at Town Hall, 6 E. Pennsylvania Ave.

New Web site: The Town of Lovettsville has launched a Web site to keep citizens informed about what is going on around town. The site includes a calendar of events and information about government and services. Some of the site's pages are still under construction, but a lot of information is already up at www.townoflovettsville.com .

Purcellville

Street cleaning: The town will begin street sweeping Aug. 13. Residents should avoid parking any vehicles on the following streets during the scheduled times. Beginning Aug. 13 and 14: Locust Grove, Hirst Farm, Valley Springs, Country Club Hills and Catoctin Meadows. Beginning Aug. 15 and 17: Valley Industrial Park, Old Dominion Valley, Gardner Meadows, Villages of Purcellville, Kingsbridge, Stone Mason Place and the Meadows. The sweeping should be complete in one week.

Round Hill

Town Council: The Town Council agreed on July 19 to have an attorney negotiate a lease with The Villages at Round Hill Homeowners Association to develop a park at Sleeter Lake, just south of Round Hill. The park was part of the proffers for The Villages. A design plan for Sleeter Lake Park has yet to be drawn.
