Tate auction canceled

Four homes were auctioned July 31 at 9 a.m. near the steps of the county courthouse in Leesburg.

But Mark Tate's Purcellville house, previously advertised for auction in the Loudoun Times-Mirror, wasn't among them.

"The property went on hold this morning," said auctioneer Greg Briti of the Professional Foreclosure Corporation of Virginia, a Virginia Beach-based firm that acted as the substitute trustee for the auction. "[This] means the lender is working something out with the property owner."

Although no specifics were given about any last-minute arrangements between Tate and his lender, Fremont Investment and Loan, Briti said the auction on Tate's home had been canceled.

There are currently 1,195 properties in Loudoun in some state of foreclosure, according to RealtyTrac Inc., an online database that tracks foreclosures.
