Leetown

Crosstrail: Town Council members will meet with representatives from the Board of Supervisors and the Crosstrail Development team July 11 at 6 p.m. to discuss the approval of residential building near Leesburg Executive Airport. The meeting, at the County Government Building, is open to the public but will not include a public hearing.

Lawsuit: Council members Kevin Wright and Fernando "Marty" Martinez met July 9 with litigants of the out-of-town water suit against Leesburg to find common ground and "get the lawsuit out of the way," said Wright.

Residents of River Creek, Lakes at Red Rock and Spring Lakes housing developments filed complaint against the town in February 2005 because they were paying twice as much as in-town residents for the same water and sewage services. Leesburg is appealing – to the State Supreme Court – the county's April 2007 decision favoring the out-of-town residents.

"Because the lawsuit is still there, everyone was a little hesitant to throw out ideas [about what the out-of-town charge should be]," said Wright, who added that the litigants weren't opposed to the idea of an out-of-town water charge but felt it wasn't reasonable to pay twice what in-town residents pay.

While the appeal is pending, out-of-town residents will continue to pay the higher rate, even though they won their suit.

Wright said he hoped the meeting would keep the residents updated about the council's prospect and where the suit is.

No go on no drive-throughs: The proposal to ban future drive-throughs from the commercial zone between downtown Leesburg and the Route 7 Bypass was withdrawn July 9. In a joint press release, Council members Kevin Wright and Kathryn "Katie" Hammler, who were the patrons of the proposal, said there is a possibility that the proposal would appear to be "aimed at one specific property, rather than as a townwide policy."
