Fight for Taylor

One of the big names in Loudoun sports is reaching out to help a little girl in Ashburn.

Jimmy Lange, the WBC Continental Americas superwelterweight champion, is hosting a DVD fight night as a fundraiser for Taylor Love, a 2-year old who is fighting cancer.

For eight months Taylor has been battling neuroblastoma, a cancer of the sympathetic nervous system. She has undergone numerous rounds of chemotherapy, blood transfusions and surgery, and is currently receiving experimental treatment at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York.

“This past week has been an unsettling one for me,” said Aimee Love, Taylor's mom. “Not because of Taylor and our situation, but because of the realities of this new world that we are living [in]. This disease is something no child should ever have to battle -- it kills and it robs everyone who comes remotely close to it.”

Many family friends and community members have reached out to the Love family to show their support.

Saturday night, at the Alexandria home of the Whalen family -- friends of Lange and the Loves – Lange will give a behind-the-scenes look at his last match, which won him the championship belt. Lange will sign autographs around 5 p.m., and the match replay will start at 7:30 p.m. There is a suggested donation of $20 for each autograph.

A silent auction will also take place, beginning at 3 p.m. Items to be auctioned include autographed photos of Lange and other athletes, Redskins tickets and Orioles tickets.

In-person bidding begins at 3 p.m. and continues throughout the event. If you cannot attend, you can make electronic bids by sending an e-mail with your name, bidding item, open-bid amount, bid increase and maximum bid to redsoxx1975@aol.com.
