Gimme, gimme, gimme

 Gimme, gimme, gimme

The headline in the April 30 issue, “Big real estate bills in the mail,” should have read “Real estate big bills in the mail — retroactive to Jan. 1.”

Since 1998, there has been a 92.6 percent increase in real estate taxes, according to the commissioner of revenue. Folks, a $50 per month increase, in my case, seems outrageous.

Prices are going through the roof, fuel prices increase daily or more often, banks are being bailed out by the taxpayers while people continue to lose their homes, and people are forced to tighten their belts. But our government continues to ask for and receive tax increases.

Our county supervisors seem to say, “Hey, we know times are tough, but we need more taxes because we have to do more for you because you have less money to spend because we have your money.”

Remember this the next time you go to the polls.
