Correction

This week’s cover story in the Fauquier Times-Democrat, “Grant aims to finish Brentmoor renovation work,” needs a correction.

The John Singleton Mosby Museum Foundation has not requested nor does it expect to receive a matching grant of $250,000 in the Town of Warrenton’s FY 2009 budget.

To clarify matters, the foundation did receive a matching grant of $250,000 in FY 2008, and those funds are currently being spent on the final restoration of Brentmoor. The matching grant also helped the foundation raise an additional $250,000 from other sources.

As the article accurately indicated, we expect to complete the restoration work by the end of the summer. Concurrently, exhibit planning and development is underway.

We hope to open the doors to the museum and education center by the end of the year — at last.

Over the years, the foundation and the town have received grants and donations from federal, state and local government and from many private foundations and individual donors. These funds have supported the construction of the Visitor’s Center, the restoration of Brentmoor, the building of a museum collection, and operations of the foundation.

Last week, the area comprising the Journey Through Hallowed Ground became a National Heritage Area. Main Street Warrenton is an important part of that journey and the Mosby Museum will become one of the major attractions along the way.

The year 2009 will mark the 250th anniversary of Fauquier County and the start of the sesquicentennial commemoration of the Civil War.

The Town of Warrenton and Fauquier County should experience a significant increase in heritage tourism. The Mosby Museum and Educational Center will be ready, thanks, in great part, to the citizens of Warrenton.
