Costco contagion

 Costco contagion

I am disappointed and very frustrated by the latest rejection thrown in the faces of the residents of the New Baltimore, i.e., Circuit Court Judge Jeff Parker's decision to reject arguments presented before him by James Rohr's lawyer regarding Cross Creek Shopping Center as a site for Costco.

I, as a nearby resident of the proposed Costco, along with many others, have strongly voiced our objection to having a "big-box" store built on U.S. 29 in New Baltimore, but to no avail.

Nobody is listening, which, I guess, means that we don't count.

Every time I drive up or down U.S. 29 to and from Gainesville, I am shocked and disgusted by the ongoing progression of shopping centers and box stores being built between Gainesville and the outskirts of Warrenton.

Are we really ready to become an addition to Prince William County's awful urban spread?

Do we really need to add further congestion to the road(s) leading to Warrenton?

The congestion, as it is now, is annoying, to say the least, and the time it takes to get to and from Interstate 66 is ridiculous. It can take more than a half hour to get up or down U.S. 29 between New Baltimore and I-66 on a good day, much less during rush hours.

Add to that a Costco, and we've got a total fiasco on our hands.

I still do not understand why, if it is so important to have a Costco in Warrenton, it is not being built down by Wal-mart. Keep the big stores in an area together. And, now a Target, as well?

I am taking the liberty of speaking for my fellow residents of New Baltimore and asking "why us?"

Why are we being made the victims of the God-awful eye-sores and traffic-congestion caused by Galloping Development Disease, which is so rapidly approaching and encroaching on Fauquier County and New Baltimore? Once G.D.D. comes over the county line, it will be too late to stop it from spreading further. Save Fauquier County, particularly Warrenton, from G.D.D.
