The Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) said that Virginians recycled 43.5 percent of solid wastes in 2011. This amount is three percent more than was recyled in 2010.

Accepting all recyclables in one container, and not requiring presorting, contributes to the success of recycling programs. All sorting occurrs at processing centers.

A report is available for viewing at the DEQ web site.
