VDOT gears up for potential freezing rain

The Virginia Department of Transportation is getting ready for the possibility of overnight freezing rain in the western part of the Culpeper District.

VDOT crews will report to work at midnight in the western parts of the district, which encompasses Fauquier and Culpeper counties, to prepare for the freezing rain that may fall early Wednesday morning along the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Although widespread freezing is not predicted, motorists should check weather and road conditions before driving late Tuesday evening through Wednesday morning. Pavement temperatures will be near freezing and drivers may encounter slick conditions, especially on bridge decks, ramps and turn lanes.

The chance of freezing rain is highest along the Blue Ridge and on the mountain passes, including Interstate 64, I-66, and Routes 250, 33, 211 and 522.
