Sheriff’s office to hold community meeting on northern Fauquier burglaries
(Updated 1/23, 11:03 a.m.)
The Fauquier County Sheriff's Office will host a community meeting at The Plains Volunteer Fire Company on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. to discuss the rash of burglaries in northern Fauquier.
The day-time burglaries, which started a few months ago, have become more frequent in recent weeks. Parts of western Loudoun County have also been burglarized. Loudoun and Fauquier deputies, as well as the Virginia State Police, believe the thefts are connected and have been investigating them together.
The Plains fire hall is located at 4260 Loudoun Avenue. The public is encouraged to attend the meeting.
UPDATE: The sheriff's office is investigating five burglaries, four in the Halfway Road corridor and one on Atoka Road, which they believe are connected to each other, according to a release.
After investigation, sheriff's deputies discovered that the reported Jan. 15 incident on Narrows Lane in The Plains was not a burglary. "The victim discovered a friend had stopped by her home while she was gone and removed the items originally reported stolen," said Fauquier Lt. James Hartman in the release.
A Dec. 31 incident, in which a cabin on Bull Run Mountain Road was entered, may or may not be related to the burglaries. It was included on the list of reported incidents because it was reported on the same day as a burglary on Landmark Road.
