School board votes 4-1 to maintain school calendar
Fauquier's school calendar will remain as it is for at least another year.
The Fauquier County School Board voted 4-1 to accept a proposed 2013-2014 school calendar identical to the one the school division has followed for the past four years.
School will start Aug. 19. The winter break will start Dec. 23, with students and school staff returning Jan. 3. Spring break will start April 14 and end April 21. School will end June 10. The calendar allows for five "snow days."
According to the board members who voted in its favor, the school calendar gives students more pre-winter instruction days than an alternative proposal, which would have started school Aug. 26.
School Board member Brian Gorg, representing Fauquier's Center District, cast the sole dissenting vote.
The school calendar approved Monday night is not convenient to the lives of many Fauquier residents, Gorg said, especially the bedroom communities in his district.
"We're going the same number of days no matter when we go," Gorg said.
