In a board of supervisors and school board liaison meeting Wednesday night, Fauquier County Administrator Paul McCulla described a "nutshell" version of the FY2014 budget he will recommend to the board of supervisors.
McCulla will recommend a 3.5 cents property tax increase. If adopted, this would be the first increase in seven years, McCulla said. The average home value in Fauquier County is $313,000. That homeowner would pay $109 more in taxes, according to McCulla.
Furthermore, McCulla will propose a local funding amount increase of $2 million for Fauquier County Public Schools (FCPS) for FY2014, slightly less than half of the $5.1 million increase proposed in the school budget prepared by Dr. Sandra Mitchell, acting superintendent of FCPS.
Also, McCulla will recommend a 2.5 percent raise for county employees.
