Man living in tent allegedly tries to abduct Remington woman

Tuesday, Feb. 5 | By Mark Grandstaff
Arthur M. Gatewood
Fauquier sheriff's deputies arrested a Remington man on a charge of attempted abduction Monday night.

At about 11 p.m., a woman told deputies that she was accosted by a man on a bicycle while walking west on Main Street near the Remington Pharmacy.

The woman exchanged greetings with the man when he grabbed her by the wrist. She told him to let go or she would scream. In response, he covered her mouth with his other hand.

The woman broke free after a struggle and ran home.

Deputy Jimmy Arrington recognized the suspect’s description as similar to that of a man living in a tent behind a house on Franklin Street. Deputies went to the tent and found Arthur M. Gatewood, 53.

After further investigation, Deputy Wesley Frost arrested Gatewood, charging him with attempted abduction and possession of marijuana. He is being held without bond in the Fauquier County Adult Detention Center.
