The Wakefield Owls picked up another blowout victory Wednesday by beating the Massanutten Military girls basketball team, 53-17, at home in The Plains.
The Owls (16-6) allowed only four points in the second half, shutting out Massanutten in the third quarter. They took a 24-6 lead by the end of the first quarter, a 37-13 advantage by halftime and a 51-13 lead by the end of the third period.
Emily Granruth led Wakefield with 17 points, while Airielle Jenkins had 11 and Alecys Wallace had eight. Kate Stamer led the Owls with six rebounds, while Granruth had five steals, five blocks and four rebounds. Kelly Mason added five points, four steals and four rebounds, while Shelby Sipes had four rebounds and two assists.
Kettle Run boys basketball 62, Dominion 57
The Kettle Run Cougars overcame a nine-point deficit on the road in Sterling to beat the Dominion boys basketball team, 62-57, Wednesday.
The Cougars (8-10 overall, 4-1 Evergreen District) trailed at halftime, 28-19, but used a 43-point second half to edge Dominion.
Brendan Deliee led Kettle Run with 17 points, while Travis Williams had 12, Rashawn Latimer added 10, Lucas Costa finished with eight and Danny Mattson had seven.
