The Liberty Eagles maintained their slim edge atop the Evergreen District boys basketball standings Friday with a 75-64 victory over the Warren County Wildcats.
Liberty (11-10) improved its district record to 6-1 and will close the regular season Tuesday against Kettle Run, which also has only one Evergreen loss at 4-1.
Against Warren County (6-13 overall, 0-6 district), the Eagles took a 34-18 lead by the end of the first quarter and never relinquished that advantage. Xavier Colbert led them with 32 points while Aaron Patterson and CJ Lindsay had 10 each. Arber Krasniqi added eight points while Armend Krasniqi had six.
Evergreen District girls basketball
The Warren County Wildcats maintained their lead in the Evergreen District girls basketball standings Friday with a 41-25 victory over the Liberty Eagles on the road in Bealeton.
Warren County (10-8) improved to 5-1 in the district, while Liberty (8-11) fell to 4-3. Brentsville (11-6) also improved its record to 4-2 with a 40-23 win over Fauquier (2-16), which fell to 1-5.
Brentsville’s Haleigh Kilby and Ashley Winslow combine for 27 points.
Fauquier boys basketball 65, Brentsville 43
At risk of being eliminated from the race for the Evergreen District boys basketball regular season championship, the Fauquier Falcons beat the Brentsville Tigers, 65-43, Friday on the road in Nokesville.
The Falcons improved their district record to 4-2 and could still force a tiebreaker for the title with victories Tuesday at home against Warren County and Feb. 8 at Kettle Run, plus a Liberty (6-1) loss to Kettle Run (4-1) on Friday.
Against Brentsville, Fauquier (9-10 overall) took a 12-8 lead at the end of the first quarter, a 26-19 advantage at halftime and a 44-34 lead at the end of the third period before going on a 21-9 run in the fourth.
Jeremiah Blackwell led the Falcons with 24 points on 3-for-5 3-point shooting, while Caleb Lantz had 16 points on 4-for-5 3-point shooting. Jay Jay Roberts added 14 points.
