Four Public Hearings at Board Of Supervisors Remain Open Due To Procedural Error

Thursday, Nov. 8 | By .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)
Four out of six public hearings on the schedule for the Nov 8 Fauquier County Board of Supervisors monthly meeting were motioned to remain open until the board's next scheduled meeting (Dec 13, 2012) due to a procedural error.
According to Board of Supervisor Chairman, Holder Trumbo, the board could not legally vote on four items during the public hearings because the requirement of two public notices assigned to land use matters had not been met prior to the board convening on Nov 8.
Trumbo felt that the mistake, which made it illegal for the Board of Supervisors to vote, had an insignificant impact on the due process of government action and the public's involvement in their government.
"The people who are concerned about these particular issues stay on top of where they are in the government process, and technically we could have simply closed these particular hearings, but it's important for people to have their voice since we did get one public notice out and as you can see tonight, people certainly had plenty to say."
