Flu wave prompts Fauquier Hospital restrictions

Wednesday, Jan. 16 | By Mark Grandstaff
Fauquier Hospital urges visitors to keep children out of the hospital unless they're coming for treatment.

"Visitors are asked not to bring children to the hospital unless they are coming to see a physician, or for an outpatient procedure or surgery. No one under the age of 18 may visit patients," Fauquier Hospital posted on its Facebook page.

The flu is to blame for part of the hospital's high case load. To prevent the spread of the disease -- and other flu-like illnesses -- visitors with symptoms will be asked to wear a mask and use hand sanitizer.

Flu season has also prompted more restrictions in the hospital's Family Birthing Center. The spouse/significant other of the mother may visit any time. Grandparents of the baby are permitted to visit between 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. No one under 18, including siblings, will be permitted to visit mothers or babies.
