Grant Holmes led a small group of Fauquier County athletes during the New Balance Indoor Nationals at the Armory Track & Field Center in New York, March 8-10, by placing 10th in the boys pole vault of the Emerging Elite division.
He cleared 14 feet, 3.5 inches for that top-10 finish and only three other vaulters cleared a higher height. Holmes vaulted 13-3.75 and 13-9.75, each on his second attempt, and then cleared 14-3.5 on this third attempt before missing on three attempts at 14-9.5.
In the Emerging Elite boys high jump, Carlos Vegerano cleared 5-11.25 on his first attempt before scratching three times at the next height of 6-1.25.
In the freshman division 60-meter dash, Kettle Run’s Austin Lewis placed sixth with a time of 7.26 seconds after finishing the preliminaries sixth in 7.25.
The Kettle Run 800 relay team of Lewis, Vegerano, Austin Rodgers and Josh Tapscott qualified in Emerging Elite, but did not finish the race.
