Fauquier to join statewide tornado drill Tuesday

Monday, Mar. 11 | By Mark Grandstaff
Fauquier County government employees will take part in a statewide tornado drill Tuesday, and they invite residents to do the same.

Gov. Bob McDonnell declared March 12 to be Tornado Preparedness Day. Last year, meteorologists recorded 11 tornados throughout Virginia.

The statewide tornado drill starts at 9:45 a.m. For help in conducting a tornado drill and to register for the statewide drill, go to ReadyVirginia.gov.

The National Weather Service suggests Virginia residents buy weather radios for up-to-the-minute information on tornadoes and other inclement weather patterns. Fauquier County residents can also get free weather and emergency warnings from the CodeRED "reverse 9-1-1" system. To register for the service visit the Department of Fire, Rescue and Emergency Management's website or call DFREM at (540) 422-8803.
