Fauquier fire chief published in Va. fire magazine

Thursday, Oct. 4 | By Mark Grandstaff
DFREM Chief Thomas Billington
Commonwealth Chief, a magazine devoted to Virginia fire chiefs, published in its October issue an article written by Thomas Billington, chief of the Fauquier Department of Fire, Rescue and Emergency Management.

The article, "Passionate, Profession, Paycheck, Professional," explores the attitudes volunteer and paid firefighters can bring to their work. Billington, who has been both, makes the case that attitude, not a paycheck, determines the quality of service a firefighter can provide.

"I see firefighting as my profession and my passion - not just a paycheck," Billington wrote in the article. "And professional firefighting has no limits or boundaries across the paid or non-paid spectrum."
