The Fauquier Falcons finished as the runner-up at the NOVA Classic wrestling tournament Saturday at Fairfax High.

With individual championships by Matt Raines and Max Strum, the Falcons accumulated 180 points, while Battlefield won with 194.5 and Centreville placed third with 180.

Raines won the 132-pound bracket and Strum won at 182, while Garrett Tingen (126) and Daniel Ariola (113) placed third, Caleb Strum (106) finished fourth, Michael Villalobos (145) took sixth and Ben Brady (160) placed eighth.

In the finals, Raines pinned Chantilly’s Ryand Arnold, while Max Strum beat Centreville’s Tyler Love, 7-6.

Kettle Run wrestling places 7th

The Kettle Run Cougars opened the wrestling season Saturday by placing seventh out of 14 teams at the Max Horz Invitational at Berkeley Springs (W. Va.) High.

The Cougars earned seven medals, including a championship performance by Adam Bresson, and finished with 120 points. Loudoun County won the event with 177.5 points.

Bresson won the 182-pound bracket, while Caleb Yost placed second (126 pounds), Cameron O’Conner and Evan Rankin finished third (145), David Libby (120) and Connery Ryon (152) took fifth, and Jean Garcia finished sixth (285).

Kettle Run girls basketball 42, Culpeper 30

The Kettle Run Cougars improved their record to 2-2 Friday with a 42-30 victory over the Culpeper girls basketball team at home in Nokesville.

Senior Melissa McCann led Kettle Run with 11 points and 12 rebounds, while sophomore Jasmine Webster had 10 points and four rebounds. Freshman Emily Yergin and sophomore Kiana Walker each added eight points off the bench.
