The Wakefield Owls won Tuesday after losing their first game of the season Sunday to St. John’s Catholic (Frederick, Md.), 54-42, in the Mid-Atlantic Invitational at St. Timothy's School in Stevenson, Md.

Wakefield beat Trinity Christian, 53-27, Tuesday on the road in Fairfax to improve its record to 3-1. The Owls took a 21-4 lead in the first quarter and expanded that advantage to 36-9 by halftime.

Airielle Jenkins and Emily Granruth each finished with a game-high 16 points, while Kelly Mason had seven and Julianna Parra had six. Granruth added 10 rebounds, three steals, three assists and a block, while Mason and Jenkins had six steals each. Jenkins also had four rebounds, while Alexis Smith had four assists.

Sunday against St. John’s, Wakefield blew an 18-17 halftime lead. St. John’s went on an 18-11 run in the third quarter en route to victory. Granruth had 16 points, nine rebounds and two steals, while Mason had 15 points, seven rebounds and four steals. Jenkins had four steals, four rebounds and four points.

Liberty boys basketball 59, Colonial Beach 40

C.J. Lindsay scored a career-high 24 points Tuesday to help his Liberty Eagles beat Colonial Beach, 59-40, in a boys basketball game on the road.

The Eagles improved their record to 2-2 as Aaron Patterson added 16 points and Xavier Colbert had 11.
