Fauquier County Sheriff's Office
The Fauquier County Sheriff's Office encompasses a wide variety of community safety and citizen awareness programs. The Sheriff's Office is located at 78 West Lee Street in the Town of Warrenton. Comprised of about 100 sworn deputies, the agency includes a criminal investigation division, the Adult Detention Center, an emergency response team (SERT), a patrol division, a civil process unit and four resource officers for the middle and high schools. The Sheriff's Office provides many programs for the community, including the annual Shop with a Cop for local youths. Fauquier County is part of the Virginia State Police second division, which has its main headquarters in Culpeper. Known as both a primary and an assisting agency, the state police patrol major roadways in Fauquier and Rappahannock while assisting the county's other police agencies. They can provide helicopters, a tactical team, K-9s (police dogs), crime scene investigation and accident reconstruction. State troopers also provide crime prevention programs and child safety seat inspections. The Warrenton Police deal with everything from writing parking tickets to solving town murders. With approximately 20 officers, including special investigators, the Warrenton Police is headed by Chief Connie Novak. The Warrenton Police also sponsors the Hug-a-Bear program and Neighborhood Watch.
