Portuguese Wines - Sipping Them Yet?
Gas is quickly approaching $4/gallon. The Euro is still sinking the dollar. My home value is sinking along with the dollar. Know what keeps me going? That's right, wine. And I'm not bashful about admitting it.
Wine. keeps. me. sane. A gal's got her sanity standards, though. I'm not tossing back the Boonesfarm and Charles Shaw (YES, they belong in the same sentence). Drinking that swill would keep me oblivious, not sane.
I am sipping sensational Vino Vixen Values that are luscious, complex, hedonistic (so need hedonism these days), and flipping inexpensive (because this economy is KILLING me). I am sipping the wines of Portugal.
Tonight I am enjoying:
2005 Alves de Sousa $11 - Potomac Wine & Spirits (ask for Steve)
Caldes
Douro Red (field blend - Tempranillo, Tinta Franca, Tinta Barocca)
Juicy, lush with spice notes and a mouthful of ripe black berries. Soft tannins, and silky smooth finish. This is not an $11 wine. This drinks like a $25 bottle.
Steve at Potomac Wine & Spirits (202.333.2848) scored some kind of wierd deal on this one and is closing it out at this phenomenal price. Buy it before it's all gone. It is that good. Promise it will make you forget your gas woes - for at least an evening.
Cheers,
VV
