The Tax Bill “Cometh”

The first “half of taxes” due on June 5 will reflect the 76.5-cent rate  “The 2006 reassessment valued the ‘typical’ Fauquier home at $417,200, according to Commissioner of Revenue Ross D'Urso.” The word “typical” is defined as characteristic, usual, normal, standard, mainstream, average, nothing out of the ordinary, predictable. (I guess that means that those that live in Fauquier are predictable.) Using the new tax rate of $.765 per $100 of assessed value yields $3,191.58, as the “typical” tax bill. Add 15% for standard “income tax and contributions” and you must earn $3,754.80 “gross income.” $1.81 per hour for 52 weeks working forty hours…for the local government…not counting the town, then we get to pay local sales taxes. (That’s called working for the man) What would the tax rate be if 75% of the 424,300 acres of land in Fauquier County was not being taxed at a decrease rate, as the owners opt for “in conservation and land use?” (That’s called apathy)  …And we thought we got to see all that “open space” for free.
