Weekly Prayer Group in Leesburg Continues

By Roy H. Dunseith

Leesburg, Virginia

“Pray Leesburg” meets weekly every Wednesday from 8:00 AM to 9:00 AM in the basement at Thomas Balch Library at 208 West Market Street. This group now enjoys the participation of a local community leader that prays with them. There is a core of 6 to 8 regulars from all walks of life, pastors, business men and women and government workers who meet regularly to pray for the town of Leesburg and the local community. In addition we have two or three visitors that also attend each week. Each meeting is started with a short discussion period about relevant spiritual issues within the local community and what the prayer needs of the group are before the prayers commence.

Recently Pray Leesburg coordinated with the Loudoun Awakening 2009 Celebration.  The Awakening hosted the second annual Bible Reading Marathon at the County Courthouse from May 2nd to Thursday, May 7th. Every congregation, business, ministry, civic organization and school as well as each Loudoun elected official was invited to participate. Groups were allotted one hour blocks with 4 - 15 minute reading slots. Over 300 people participated. The event took place on the north side of the Courthouse complex on the brick patio facing King Street. The Bible reading event was established to support the annual National Day of Prayer in May. Leesburg Mayor Kristen Umstadt kicked off the Bible-reading marathon at noon on Saturday May 2nd by reading from the first seven chapters of Genesis.

Anyone interested in participating on Wednesday can enter the prayer group via the back of the Thomas Balch Library and that is where parking can be found as well.  All are welcome and the gathering is non denominational.  For more information, please contact Roy Dunseith at coachroy1@verizon.net.
